The “Giro of Lombardia”, first held in 1905, is one of the five great monuments of cycling and one of the most important one-day races of the year for professionals. The next edition will take place on Sunday, October 10th. For U23 drivers there is the “Piccolo Lombardia”, the little Lombardy tour. On the podium in recent years illustrious names such as Gianni Moscon, Dylan Teuns, Guilio Ciccone, Robert Stannard and Gino Mäder. Yesterday there was the 93rd edition, with all U23 top teams and also with the new U23 world champion from Italy, Filippo Baroncini. For the Tirol KTM Team, the race was the wonderful end to a very successful season: Georg Steinhauser, perhaps the strongest rider in the entire peloton on this day, finished in an excellent third place. Briefly about the course of the race: Felix Steinhauser was in a top group of five for a long time. At the beginning of the legendary climb up to the Madonna del Ghisallo, Matevz Govekar and Kevin Rosola Steinhauser led the way forward, Engelhardt was the relay station. In the final, Steinhauser attacked and crossed the finish line with two other drivers after 170 kilometers. Logan Mclain and Emanuel Zangerle reached the finish line in the heavily decimated peloton, only 40 of 130 starters and thus again showed a great test of talent in their first “U23 road year”.
