What a success. Felix Engelhardt won the title in the U23 category in today’s European Championship road race over 147 kilometers on the hilly course in Anadia (Portugal).

“I can’t believe it at all. That’s overwhelming. I’ve been on the podium a lot in the last four years, but I haven’t won a race. And then that,” Felix cheered after his coup. “We worked well together in the leading group. Then i started from behind 200 meters before the finish line and it was enough,” he described the final, in which he initiated a four-man break away group with his attack on the last climb which ultimately fought for the medals.*

And another rider of our team, ok, an ex-rider, made a more than strong exclamation mark too: Matevz Govekar, in the Slovenian national jersey and under contract with Bahrain Victorious since June 1st, won the sprint of the peloton and finished three seconds behind Felix Engelhardt, Matthias Vacek (Czech Republic), Davide De Pretto (ITA) and Erik Fetter (HUN) on the fifth place.

A personal note: How nice it is when determination, endurance and a healthy ambition are rewarded in this way. Dear Felix, we are just so happy for you. You have more than earned this title and with it you have made the final leap into the WorldTour.
